A family-oriented second-hand apartment in a certain city in the Kanto region. The Hayama couple and the Hoshino couple live on the same floor. Both have been married for five years and have children; the husbands are office workers, and the wives are part-time housewives. Being roughly the same generation, the two families maintain friendly neighborhood relations. However, Sayuri, the wife of the Hayama family, and Akira, the husband of the Hoshino family, share a secret they can never reveal. In fact, these two married individuals living in the same apartment building have fallen into a forbidden extramarital affair.
